On November 18, a joint venture between China Energy Engineering Group Guangdong Electric Power Design Institute Co., Ltd. and China Energy International Group Co., Ltd. signed an EPC contract with Meralco for the Terra (Phase I) Western Region Solar + Battery Storage Project.
Manuel V. Pangilinan, Chairman of Meralco, Lv Zexiang, Chairman of China Energy International Group Co., Ltd., Huang Zhiqiu, Chairman of Guangdong Electric Power Design Institute Co., Ltd., and Chen Lan, Deputy General Manager of Guangdong Electric Power Design Institute Co., Ltd., attended the signing ceremony.
The project is located in Nueva Ecija, 100 kilometers north of Manila. The scope of operation includes design, procurement, civil engineering, installation, and debugging of a 1.4GW photovoltaic power plant and a 35kV collection line and BOP for a 3.3GWh energy storage facility.
The contract took effect upon signing. Construction of the project is scheduled to commence in November 2024, with operations expected to begin in 2026. Upon completion, the project will substantially boost the share of renewable energy in the local power grid, alleviate the electricity shortage on Luzon Island, and foster local economic and social development.
